Highlands mental health service expands with new Inverness consulting room

Highlands Psychoanalytic Collective has added a second consulting room in Inverness as demand for its support for young people and families continues to grow

A mental health service for young people in the Scottish Highlands has expanded its Inverness provision with an additional consulting room.

The Highlands Psychoanalytic Collective (HPC) has taken on space at 14b Stephens Brae, a short distance from its existing base at 8a Stephens Brae, to increase capacity for appointments with young people and families.

The organisation said demand for its service has been high and that its original premises, which had only one consulting room, had become increasingly constrained.

The additional space has been secured with support from Iona Urquhart of TestMe Health and charity funder The Fore, which selected HPC as one of its 2026 Rising Stars.

The Fore said its support would help the organisation recruit additional psychotherapists and move into larger premises as it sought to expand access to mental health support for young people across rural Scotland.

HPC became a registered Scottish charity in June 2025, with its stated purposes including improving mental health and emotional wellbeing in the Highlands and supporting people experiencing disadvantage.

The organisation's Inverness service developed from Brent Centre Highlands, which opened its clinic in central Inverness in March 2024.

The original service was established to provide free psychotherapy and practical mental health support for young people aged 14 to 21.

The service has since transitioned from the London-based Brent Centre for Young People to HPC.

The transfer took effect on 30 June 2026, with HPC reporting that referrals had increased by 25% and that more than 100 young people had been supported during the previous year.

HPC now operates youth psychotherapy hubs in Inverness and Nairn, with the organisation aiming to support more than 100 young people each year through the two services.
