Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has recently installed its sixth ARCADIS Varic C-arm from Siemens Healthcare.
The hospital recieved its first Varic in 2007 and has continued to boost its facilities with five more due to demand. The systems where chosen for their excellent image quality plus robust and compact design, which is ideal for transportation throughout the hospital’s 18 theatres.
The Varic systems are available for use 24 hours a day and are mainly used for orthopaedic procedures as part of the hospital’s trauma and orthopaedic department, one of the largest in South East England. The systems are also used for urology procedures, general surgery, vascular procedures and a daily pain clinic.
Since the installation of the latest Varic, the hospital has benefitted from increased throughput along with eased organisational pressures of allocating the systems throughout various theatres.
The system’s compact and lightweight trolley features large 19ins dual TFT monitors for high-quality image visualisation. This is boosted further by the Varic’s syngo user interface, enabling fast and intuitive system operation, image post-processing and networking. Additionally, it includes dose reduction features including an integrated laser light localiser, dose-free collimation and multi-level dose control. The system’s mobile C-arm is also counterbalanced removing the need for it to be locked into place, enhancing ease of use for clinicians and providing easy patient access.
“We have a high demand for the ARCADIS Varic C-arms within our theatres and they are in constant use,” said Veronica Pulleyn, senior radiographer and theatre co-ordinator at Frimley Park Hospital.
“The compact footprint and robust design means they can be easily transported as they are regularly moved around our 18 theatres.”
