Access control system with integrated automatic swing doors installed as part of care home revamp

As part of its multi-phase refurbishment, residential care facility The Grange has recently had an access control system with integrated automatic swing doors installed by DORMA.

The DORMA MATRIX Professional access control system will provide ease of accessibility for residents with restricted mobility, but at the same time help to achieve the desired level of security.

The Grange is a support and residential care facility that provides first-class care services to people living with a disability. Following redevelopment of the three residential care wings in Bookham, the project team needed to source a range of modern door solutions that would effectively accommodate for individuals with restricted mobility that may struggle operating heavy, non-automatic doors.

Given the nature of the facility it was crucial to adhere to the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. As such, three sets of automatic swing doors were installed. However, the security of the residents was also a crucial factor. Therefore the doors were connected to the MATRIX Professional access control system. Residents simply need to present their fob at one of the proximity wall readers to enter the building. A number of XS-PRO Cylinders were also integrated within the access control system and fitted into the locking cylinders of various doors accessed by staff.

Adrian Cotton, head of housing and development at The Grange, said: “For our residents and staff usability is key. DORMA’s automatic swing doors and access control solutions achieve the necessary balance between ease of use, safety and security.

“The access control system also provides us with greater flexibility and control as we were able to programme the fobs with different access rights for staff and for residents.

“Now, as the MATRIX Professional software is maintained in-house, we can effectively manage who enters what part of the facility and change the access rights of any fob if we need to.”

For a high-traffic environment such as The Grange it was also important that high-quality, long-lasting door solutions were installed to ensure the building openings are kept reliable and safe. DORMA was able to design, plan and install all the solutions needed for the project - providing a robust and sustainable access plan for staff and clientele within and around the premises.

DORMA was also awarded the contract to provide ongoing service and maintenance within The Grange. This will ensure all doors continue to operate correctly and meet legislative standards and help to reduce lifecycle costs.
