Detailed planning consent has been approved for a community health centre in the heart of the proposed new £500m Edinburgh Marina waterside development.
The delivery of a fully-equipped medical centre and five retail units at Chestnut Yard will provide essential services for residents, while also serving as a hub for the wider community.
Designed by Wilson Gunn Architects, the £6m mixed-used project is the latest phase within the wider marina development to receive planning consent following the council giving the thumbs-up to a luxury retirement living scheme in January.
The wider vision for the development represents a truly-unique opportunity for both Edinburgh, and Scotland as a whole, to create a cross-generational lifestyle hub which combines state-of-the-art facilities and a wide variety of housing tenures.
Commenting on the announcement, Kevin Fawcett of developer, Granton Central Developments, said: “The provision of essential local shopping and health care services within the community is vital to the development as a whole and will help to reduce vehicle use in the surrounding area.
“This facility is a key milestone for the development and a significant step forward for Granton’s local residents which is long overdue.”
