Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has held a public consultation for the new building on the hospital's site

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is in the early development and planning stages of an Elective Care Centre to be built on the Bedford Hospital site.

The centre would provide brand new operating theatres that serve to reduce waiting times for planned operations, improve patient experience and patient outcomes.

The new theatres also serve to free up space in other parts of the hospital for essential maintenance of the very old hospital estate and allow for improved functionality for emergencies and urgent care.

Funding is already secured, but the Trust has now hosted a drop-in public consultation event for the local community to give their input.

The session took place on 11th September in the Committee Room at Bedford Hospital.

Following the session, the Trust posted on LinkedIn that it would now “be submitting a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)” before it proceeds with a planning application.

Bedford Hospital has another projects as part of ongoing redevelopments at the site.

Earlier this month, construction contractor Merit finished construction on a same day emergency care (SDEC) centre on the site.
