BARNSLEY Hospital's newly-refurbished surgical wards and surgical high dependency unit (SHDU) for seriously ill patients have re-opened. The refurbishment and investment of £775,000 on wards 31 and 32 and the SHDU form part of the trust's plans to improve surgical inpatient services at the hospital. Debby Horbury, matron of general surgery at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The wards look fantastic and create an environment conducive to patient recovery." John Rhodes, deputy director of estates and facilities and project manager for the refurbishment, added: "The new surgical wards have been completed to an extremely high standard and should set a precedent for the standard of future hospital refurbishments."
