Work on the new £22m Stratford Hospital has been completed.
Contractor, Speller Metcalfe, is now ready to hand the hospital over to South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Work started on the project in December 2014 and the new building is approximately twice the size of the current hospital and houses a cancer unit on the top floor, ensuring that more patients can receive vital cancer treatment closer to home.
The first floor of the hospital is a dedicated eye unit which includes eight outpatient consulting rooms, three treatment rooms with associated investigation rooms and a dedicated area for children to wait.
Designed by AFL Architects; there is also a state-of-the-art operating theatre making day procedures, such as cataracts, much more accessible to communities who live in Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding communities.
Des O’Neill, managing director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “What is particularly great about this building is that it offers state-of-the-art facilities in an environment where patients can feel comfortable and at ease.”
Jayne Blacklay, director of development at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, added: “Communities across South Warwickshire are really going to benefit from having these services closer to home.
“The health and wellbeing hub, Café Lomas, is also going to be a great addition to the local community and supports one of our key objectives to support people in managing their own health and wellbeing.”
