Royal colleges reach for the clouds

IT hosting specialist, The Cloud Computing Centre, has been selected by The Royal College of Surgeons of England to host the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) and the Surgeon's Portfolio for trainee and practicing surgeons. The company will provide a stable cloud-based service for the two online systems, managed by the college and supported by high-specification disaster recovery, data security and business resilience services. Julian Ford, information systems manager at the college, said: "We are one of four surgical colleges which, along with specialist surgical associations, are responsible for the curriculum for all surgeons in training in the UK. The postgraduate education and training regulator approved curriculum stipulated in 2007 that all trainee surgeons were to use the ISCP system to record their training placements and log performance assessments. At the end of each training year, this information is used to assess whether a trainee surgeon can progress into the next year of training."
