NOROTOP+ enables speedy detection of norovirus genogroups I and II


Pro-Lab Diagnostics has launched a rapid visual assay for the detection of norovirus in faecal samples.

NOROTOP+ is a qualitative lateral flow assay allowing effective detection of norovirus in just 15 minutes.

The release comes as the number of reported norovirus cases is on the increase throughout the UK, with explosive outbreaks of the highly-contagious pathogen leading to acute gastroenteritis. The bug has caused the closure of several hospital wards over the past few winter periods.

The NOROTOP+ visual assay uses specific monoclonal antibodies to allow rapid, one-step detection of norovirus genogroups I and II, helping trusts to quickly identify and manage outbreaks. The individually-packaged test strips can be safely stored at room temperature for up to 12 months.
