A BABY barcoding scheme at Kettering General Hospital (KGH) was recently recognised at the 2011 National Patient Safety Awards, which celebrates NHS best practice. The project, which came second in the Information Technology category and was highly vommended, combines a barcoded wristband with a barcoded heel prick testing label. The system was developed with companies FDI, GS1 UK and LaserBand. Paula Lilburn, chartered scientist at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We're so pleased with this system that we now use the bar-coded wristband IDs for all KGH inpatients."
