Enteral feeding pumps manufactured by Fresenius Kabi are at the centre of a device alert after concerns about underdelivery. The Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a warning about the company's Applix Smart and Applix Vision nutrition pumps serial numbers from 1998**** to 2010**** (where * is a digit). The concern follows an increase in the number of reports of undetected occlusions. The company is advising any trusts using the equipment to ensure extended maintenance and pump checks with close inspection of the ballbearings and recalibration. It also recommends that users perform a software check and, where appropriate, the firm will install a software update.
