Planners give thumbs-up to relocation of The Gables Medical Centre in Pudsey, Leeds

The relocation of The Gables Medical Centre in Pudsey has got the green light after plans put forward by Leeds-based QAD Architects were approved by Leeds City Council.

The contemporary scheme, expected to start in November and conclude next summer, will see the busy West Leeds practice move to a new home on Swinnow Road, just 100m from the existing facility.

QAD director, Paul Wainwright, said: "The new development will provide a 502sq m single-storey building with flexible, modern facilities that will replace their current, outdated venue.

"The new-build project is divided into three specific zones covering public, private and semi-private spaces. A linked pharmacy has been designed with separate access.

"Our design proposals considered room layouts, zoning and circulation, scale, mass, pedestrian and vehicle flows as well as security.

"The building itself will include exaggerated parapets with a fascia comprising of brick and white render that complements the surrounding architecture.”

The clients, Dr Kargwal and Dr Chen, have the new plans on show in their existing reception area for patients to view.

Dr Kargwal explained: "We're delighted to have got the green light for the project and our new building, once opened next year, will dramatically improve the patient and employee experience."
