Work has begun on the new Shrewsbury Mental Health Village. The £46m facility will replace services currently delivered within the Grade II-listed Shelton Hospital, providing 97 beds together with living areas, private gardens, therapy facilities and associated support services, all set within landscaped grounds. In addition, the main entrance building will provide a cafe, bank, pharmacy, worship area and administrative facilities for the village. The scheme forms an important element of plans to modernise mental health services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. Planning services are being delivered by Capita Symonds, which is also providing landscape architecture services to South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
