Government cash pays for improvements

York Hospital has undergone a £417,000 makeover to improve facilities in the labour and maternity unit.

The project has created two dedicated birthing pool rooms and further pools within two ensuite labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms.

The hospital paid for the improvements with cash from a government fund aimed at improving standards in maternity units across the country.

Designed by Harrogate-based GSSArchitecture, the project has significantly improved the patient experience, creating a calm and welcoming environment for new mothers.

GSSArchitecture partner, Jonathan Hunter, said, “We have worked closely with the maternity staff and specialist suppliers to develop new facilities, which will make a huge difference for the patients at York Hospital.”
