Speller Metcalfe begins work on purpose-built care home in Shirley, West Midlands

Work has started on Solihull Council’s new dementia care home in Shirley.

The 60-bed, purpose-built care home, will be on land just off Tanworth Lane adjacent to a medical centre and will help meet the needs of the increasing number of older people in the borough.

Due to be completed in summer 2019 by building contractor, Speller Metcalfe; it will offer a mix of affordable care for those funded by the council, the NHS, and people who pay for their own care.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “As a council, our aim is to care for people suffering with dementia with dignity and respect.

“The new care home is important to us and we aspire to make it a centre of excellence in dementia care.

“It will be purpose built to meet the specific needs of people with dementia and will help us to cater for the growing number of older people in the borough.

“Crucially, it means more people will be able to receive good, quality care in the borough as opposed to moving further afield and away from loved ones. I look forward to the day, next year, when the care home opens its doors.”
