Interserve announces start of £19m construction project

Interserve is continuing its success under the NHS ProCure21+ framework with the announcement of a £19.4m contract to build a research, innovation, learning and development centre for joint clients, the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, the Penninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD), and the University of Exeter.

Work, which is expected to start on site in Wonford in April, will include a post graduate education centre, a research facility focusing on diabetes, a faculty of health and social work, a GP training facility and an information management and technology training centre.

The four-storey building, designed by Devereux Architects, will be linked at both ground and first floor to the existing PCMD.

A spokesman said: “The development will include a highly-glazed central ‘hub, which will form the main entrance area. The hub will provide views out and plenty of natural light. Accommodation wings will be faced in masonry, with both a textured and smooth finish and building materials selected throughout will echo those traditionally used locally.”

The scheme is expected to be awarded a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for sustainability and will be completed in October 2013.
