Assura Group holds turf-cutting ceremony at Willington Medical Centre site

Construction of the new £2.5m Willington Medical Centre in Derbyshire started this week, with a ceremonial turf-cutting event.

The state-of-the-art development is the latest project from healthcare property developer, Assura Group, delivered in conjunction with LSP Developments.

The turf-cutting ceremony was performed by local MP, Heather Wheeler, and lead GP at the practice, Dr Kyran Farrell, alongside representatives from Assura Group, LSP Developments, and architectural firm, West Hart Partnership.

The 13,000sq ft medical centre will incorporate the Willington Surgery and a local independent pharmacy and is expected to be completed in November 2013.

Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We’re very pleased to have started on site alongside LSP Developments on yet another high-quality medical centre, which will provide a joined-up service for patients in a modern and eco-friendly environment.”

Ed Sutton, managing director at LSP Developments, added: “It is very exciting to start on site following the extensive planning process. The new medical centre will offer top-of-the-range facilities for the patients and GPs alike and we expect the staff and visitors to be very pleased with the final result.
