Picto Signs has successfully completed its latest healthcare project, providing the design, production, and installation of all the signage at the new £38m Rutherford Cancer Centre East in Northumberland.
Sarah Phillips, director at Picto, said of the project: “Our work essentially enables people to understand and find their way through the buildings they visit.
"The wayfinding scheme we have developed for Rutherford Cancer Centres considers the circumstances and challenges of those who use and visit the building and its facilities.”
The Rutherford Centre is operated by Proton Partners International, the first company in the UK to offer high-energy proton beam therapy.
As well as the Northumberland Centre, Picto has also been commissioned to develop the wayfinding strategies for the company's other facilities in Newport, South Wales; Reading, Berkshire; and Liverpool.
Chris Land, centre manager at The Rutherford North East, said: “From the outset we realised that getting the signage right was going to be really important.
"Working with Picto we are helping visitors to find their way around spaces and have been able to develop a bespoke scheme which could be applied to all the centres, with sensitivity, balancing patient needs with building the Rutherford brand.
"The results are excellent and allow our patients, staff and visitors to find their way around with ease.”
The Rutherford Cancer Centres is the third specialist cancer centre project that Picto Signs has undertaken, with previous work at The Endeavour Unit at James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough; and The Radiotherapy Centre at Colchester Hospital.
