Two through to last leg of Papworth contract bid
Two leading European consortia have been named to proceed to the next stage of the development of the New Papworth Hospital to be built on the biomedical campus in Cambridge. Following a competitive process under EU legislation, the three consortia shortlisted in November 2010 presented their bids to design, build, finance and maintain the new facility. And, after a detailed evaluation, the two consortia proceeding to the next stage of the procurement process are The Bouygues Consortium comprising Bouygues UK and Ecovert FM; and Skanska comprising Skanska Infrastructure Investment UK, Skanska Construction UK, Skanska Facilities Services and OCS. "This is a key milestone in the project to relocate Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust onto the biomedical campus in Cambridge," said Stephen Bridge, chief executive. "We are looking forward to working with the two consortia to develop a new hospital which provides the highest-quality environment in which to provide the best care for our patients." The project team will now work with the two consortia to further develop their bids before a preferred candidate is selected and a contract signed, probably in late 2012. The construction phase is expected to be complete by late 2015. The new hospital will be based on an eight-acre site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and will include approximately 300 beds and a full range of clinical facilities.
