Totally Health appoints Dr Hemal Desai as clinical advisor

Medic appointed to help drive ongoing growth and proposition around new service models for the effective management of long-term conditions

Totally Health today announces the appointment of Dr Hemal Desai to its management team as clinical advisor.

Both a practicing GP in urgent care and an experienced medical leader, Dr Desai brings a wealth of experience that will help Totally Health to articulate its proposition around the management of long-term conditions within the NHS while driving the ongoing growth of existing business.

Dr Desai has been medical director for Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust as well as the executive lead for clinical effectiveness and clinical outcomes, medicines management and clinical audit. He has also been clinical adviser at the Department of Health and NHS East of England, where he provided support on the ground-breaking Hinchingbrooke Next Steps project and led the regional commissioning of pathology services.

For the last 10 years he has also been a practicing GP and currently practices in urgent care in London. He also leads a successful ecommerce business.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I am very pleased to join Totally Health. The company has an extremely compelling proposition to the NHS, for both commissioners and providers, particularly those interested in empowering patients to selfcare. The NHS fundamentally needs to redesign care pathways placing the patient at the centre of their care. Totally’s services, based on self-care using clinical health coaching, can help achieve better outcomes, reduced expenditure and less dependency on healthcare services.”

Wendy Lawrence, chief executive, added: “We are proud to welcome Hemal to the management team. His expertise and experience combines clinical knowledge with commercial and legal understanding, extensive experience in major commercial transactions and medical leadership in healthcare, which places him ideally to talk to both our clients about how they might be able to use our services to help redesign care pathways, as well as helping us to continuously evolve our proposition in line with NHS policy.”
