Project will increase capacity, modernise facilities and improve patient care

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has appointed Tilbury Douglas to lead the construction of the £4.3m Warrington emergency department extension.

To increase capacity, modernise facilities, and improve patient care within the unit, the scheme, which has a total footprint of more than 1,000sq m, includes construction of a two-storey extension of the Appleton Building.

The project, which has now started on site, has a completion date of spring 2022 and also includes the construction of a gable end on the building to form extended spaces for waiting, assessment and treatment rooms, as well as new staff rooms and offices.

The project will deliver a Social Value Return on Investment of £1.7m.

Phil Shaw, dvisional director for the North West at Tilbury Douglas, said: “This is an exciting scheme to be involved with as it is our first project with this trust, which will further add to our depth of healthcare experience in the North West.”
