Charity-funded project provides a more-comfortable environment for cancer patients

Tilbury Douglas has completed the construction of the new Ribblesdale Oncology Ward at Royal Preston Hospital on behalf of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Partially funded by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 20-Year Anniversary Appeal, the 24-bed ward provides a more-aesthetically-pleasing and comfortable environment for cancer patients and their visitors from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.

As part of the project, Tilbury Douglas pledged to support the foundation to raise additional funds outside of the budget. This included funding and installing an entertainment package consisting of nine TVs and a games system.

The scheme also delivered a social value return on investment of 46%, above the industry average, including 84% local spend, and 100% spent with SMEs.

Phil Shaw, divisional director for the North West at Tilbury Douglas, said: “It is great to have successfully completed such an important project that will make a big impact on the experience of cancer patients in the region.

“We are also proud to have delivered on our commitment to support the scheme to raise additional funds and have achieved a strong social value return on investment by working with local suppliers.”
