The Western Infirmary installs ACUSON ultrasound system

THE Western Infirmary, part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, has installed a Siemens ACUSON SC2000 diagnostic ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital bought the equipment through a grant from the British Heart Foundation Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, which will share use of the system for research projects. The trust is one of the first in the UK to use the technology, which replaces an older machine and will primarily be used for 3D echocardiography. "The SC2000 generates fantastic image quality and is allowing us to perform more sophisticated 3D echocardiography examinations," said Dr. Piotr Sonecki, consultant cardiologist at the hospital. "Towards the end of the year, we hope to be able to carry out vascular examinations and further evaluate its suitability for future research work."
