Company moves from traditional \'white\' surgical lighting to ambient colour

TRUMPF Medical Systems has announced the launch of its Ergonomic Lighting System, which makes the move into colour.

Through the development and worldwide application of its award-winning LED surgical lighting systems, the company has gained an indepth understanding of what clinicians and operating theatre staff need in order to do their jobs efficiently.

To date the company’s focus has been on ‘white’ surgical lighting where the colour temperature can be adjusted to meet the requirements of different procedures and individual preferences. But now, with the introduction of its Ergonomic Lighting System, TRUMPF Medical Systems has moved into colour.

This addition to its range is designed to promote physiological, psychological and visual wellbeing while eliminating reflection and glare on monitors for maximum visual clarity.

It has already been trialled by more than 2,000 surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing staff and the overwhelming feedback confirms less eye strain and tension.

TRUMPF Ergonomic Lighting improves working conditions for staff through the creation of light zones. It introduces the opponent pairing of green and red light, so typically a red zone would be created behind the surgeon to minimise reflection on the operating monitor during endoscopy or laparoscopic procedures.

A green light zone behind the monitor improves picture quality. It is chromatically optimal for the eye and helps minimise reflection. It also balances the red light creating overall colour harmony. White light can then be introduced wherever other procedures need to be illuminated, for example, so the anaesthetist can observe the patient.

Choice of light colour and its intensity are pre-programmed according to work flow or operated intuitively by control panel or touch screen. Up to 12 different procedures can be programmed; cleaning mode and patient light are standard features.

This flexibility allows the TRUMPF Ergonomic Lighting System to be adapted for multiple applications ranging from open to minimally-invasive surgery, ERCP and other diagnostic procedures.
