Rotherham and Leeds dominate healthcare cleaning awards shortlist
Nine entries in the running for three awards celebrating industry excellence
The unsung heroes who help to keep hospitals and health centres clean and are at the forefront of the fight against healthcare associated infections are to be singled out for praise at a national awards ceremony.
The Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP) has this week published the shortlist for the 2012 Healthcare Cleaner of the Year Awards , with nine nominations in three categories.
In the Healthcare Cleaning Supervisor of the Year category, the three people shortlisted are: Jackie Coates of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust; Dave Boyt from Moorgreen Hospital in Southampton; and Mavis Drew from Wathwood Hospital in Rotherham.
The trio in the running for the Outstanding Healthcare Cleaning Team Award are the disinfection unit team from Solent NHS Trust in Portsmouth; the training team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust; and the domestic team at Washington Primary Centre in Tyne & Wear.
The last accolade - the Working in Partnership Award - will go to either Chris Ayres of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust; Donna Jones of Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust; or Debansu Das of Sitexorbis in Uxbridge.
The awards are designed to encourage excellence in healthcare cleaning by highlighting and recognising achievement and raising awareness of the profession and the vital work its members perform in hospitals, clinics and residential care homes throughout the UK and Ireland.
A spokesman for the judges said: “We are looking to award individuals and teams who demonstrate that they have consistently delivered excellent services to their customers including, patients, visitors and staff. Factors which are taken into consideration include the range of service improvements delivered, the impact these have had on patient experience, and the effect on working relationships both within healthcare cleaning departments and with other healthcare professionals such as nursing, medical and infection prevention teams.
This year there were a record number of entries from across the country and the winners will be announced at a black tie dinner to be held during the AHCP 2012 Annual National Conference in Telford next month.
