Rachel Sharp joins McKesson Health Solutions

New role as managing director for InterQual in UK and Ireland

Rachel Sharp, a registered clinician with over 20 years of experience in health and social care, has joined McKesson Health Solutions as managing director for InterQual in the UK and Ireland.

In her new role, Sharp will define regional sales, marketing, and business development strategies for InterQual, McKesson’s market-leading clinical criteria. She will also help define international third-party distribution, local service support plans, and strategies that expand local care providers’ access to InterQual’s product portfolio.

A long-serving and highly-experienced clinician for the NHS, Sharp has held pivotal roles across service provisioning, commissioning, and support services. Her roles included deputy director of nursing and engagement, and associate director of service redesign, both within NHS East Midlands; and National Programme Lead for NHS England.

Last year she launched the NHS England National Clinical Utilisation Review Programme, where she developed the Specialised Commissioning and National CQUINs (Commissioning for Quality and Innovation); stimulated and managed the supplier market; created the financial models; established the procurement process for the supply of software; and carried out the approval process for five early implementer sites across England.

Most recently, as managing director at Rachel Sharp Ltd, she provided expert executive counsel on transformation and improving clinical quality and efficiency for a range of health and social care services organisations.

The InterQual product line is McKesson’s flagship decision support solution. InterQual criteria help commissioners and providers ensure appropriate care to improve quality and reduce unnecessary cost across the continuum of care. The InterQual clinical development team synthesises the most-current, best evidence into a fully-referenced decision support tool that is reviewed and updated annually. InterQual’s development process, honed over nearly 40 years, is founded on rigorous review of the literature, and includes extensive peer review by practicing clinical experts.
