Public views sought on plans for new Southport mental health hospital
Proposals will ensure the Southport and Formby areas have modern, fit-for-purpose inpatient mental health care integrated with outpatient services and community teams on one site
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is inviting people to share their views on proposals for a state-of-the-art new mental health hospital in Southport.
The Trust is proposing to rebuild its existing mental health unit on the former Southport General Infirmary site and to move all services from the Hesketh Centre there by 2019.
The proposals will ensure the Southport and Formby areas have modern, fit for purpose inpatient mental health care integrated with outpatient services and community teams on one site, the Trust says.
Award-winning Clock View Hospital in Walton is Mersey Care’s most recently completed scheme and now the focus of attention moves to the redevelopment of part of the historic former Southport General Infirmary site. 'Mersey Care has ambitions to build two further hospitals like Clock View in Southport and Liverpool,' said a Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson.
'The Southport redevelopment will provide all of the beds we currently offer at the inpatient wards at the Boothroyd Unit and Hesketh Centre. Importantly, it will provide all inpatients with their own individual en suite rooms to promote privacy and dignity. Therapy areas and access to safe inner courtyard gardens will help people’s recovery.'
