Advisory group set up to oversee data sharing

A new Privacy Advisory Committee has been launched in Wales to consider issues regarding the protection of NHS patient information.

The committee will look at requests for access to information involving the release of data that could be considered as person-identifiable and will provide its opinion to ensure that the secondary uses of data are appropriate.

At the same time it will recognise the need for legitimate access to records for some purposes, such as research.

Linked to the Wales Information Governance Board, the committee will also advise on the use of anonymised information, and will act in an advisory capacity to the Minister for Health and Social Care.
