Safety floor installed in oncology, haematology and women’s health departments

Decorative Polysafe safety floor from Polyflor was installed at Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s new Jigsaw Building where the oncology, haematology and women’s health departments are now based.

2,600sq m of Polysafe Wood fx PUR and Polysafe Modena PUR sheet vinyl safety flooring was installed by Floorsure (Southern) of Havant, Hampshire, who worked closely with the main contractor, Brymor Construction, on this £5.7m Jigsaw Building project.

The design-led safety flooring with built-in slip resistance was fitted throughout circulation areas, corridors, treatment rooms and reception areas.

The use of the high-clarity timber-effect Polysafe Wood fx in American Oak and neutral-toned Polysafe Modena in Gypsum with its sophisticated micro-granite decoration helped provide a homely and less-clinical environment in the building.

Providing sustainable wet slip resistance in busy, public areas where there is a risk of water spillage, both the Polysafe Wood fx and Polysafe Modena heavy commercial-grade floor coverings are suitable for high-traffic areas in the healthcare sector. Both of these design-led safety flooring ranges incorporate clear aluminium oxide safety particles through the performance layer of the vinyl which are virtually invisible to the naked eye, ensuring an attractive-yet-safe floor finish for use in commercial or residential areas.

Pam Griffiths, clinical and commissioning project co-ordinator at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, said: “Polysafe flooring was the ideal choice for creating a fresh and clean look throughout our new Jigsaw Building that was a step away from the traditional, clinical look. The safety credentials of these floorcoverings give us confidence that we have created a safe environment for both our patients and staff in this new facility.”

Like all Polysafe ranges, Wood fx and Modena meet all the mandatory slip resistance requirements, achieving 36+ on the Pendulum Wet Test with full conformance to HSE Guidelines and EN 13845. These two ranges also pass the 50,000 cycles abrasion test demonstrating the sustainability of slip resistant performance.

The Polysafe Wood fx and Modena ranges are also enhanced with cross-linked and UV-cured Polysafe PUR polyurethane reinforcement which makes them easy to clean and provides optimum appearance levels and reduced lifecycle maintenance cost savings. Quick and easy to install, Polyflor’s vinyl flooring can also be welded at the seams to provide a hygienic surface, offering no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.

Manufactured in the UK, Polysafe safety flooring also contains recycled content and is 100% recyclable through the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme. The sustainability credentials of Polyflor’s flooring are supported with the award of BES 6001 and certificated BRE Global A+ ratings for many ranges, which helped contribute to the BREEAM credits earned during development of the Jigsaw Building, resulting in an overall ‘Very Good’ rating for the project.

The Polysafe Wood fx range has recently been relaunched with six new shades added to the range. Product samples of the new colours and any other Polysafe safety flooring ranges can be ordered free of charge on the Polyflor website.
