Deal with NHS Western Isles helps replace paper systems

Plumtree Group has agreed a new contact to supply IT software services to NHS Western Isles health board in Scotland.

The Nottinghamshire-based firm will supply its dartEDM software to digitally scan and store legacy paper records and dartOCM software to provide an order communications system for processing patient records.

Ben Dorks, group director of the Plumtree Group, said: “We are delighted to announce this new contract with NHS Western Isles and look forward to working with them over the coming weeks and months. Our services will help them greatly reduce paper usage within the local NHS to become ever more efficient and improve processes throughout the health board area, with consequent benefits for patient safety and quality.”

Aileen Whytock, eHealth programmes manager at NHS Western Isles, added: “NHS Western Isles delivers healthcare across 15 inhabited islands in a chain stretching for more than 130 miles. Travelling around the board can involve ferries and planes. Current patient case notes are held at three hospitals, mental health, allied health professional departments, community services and in GP practices.

“NHS Western Isles will implement the electronic medical records to bring all these disciplines together into one comprehensive and integrated medical record for the first time. This will give clinicians access to all the information, including alerts, warnings and special notes, relevant to their patients’ treatment at the point of care. All clinical staff involved with patients will be able to view and contribute to a single record.
