Creating comfortable conditions for the UK’s leading independent healthcare provider

When the air handling plant needed replacing at a specialist medical facility operated by Britain’s-leading provider of independent healthcare, the job was not a straightforward one.

The plant was sited in the cramped apex of the unit’s loft space and was not easy to get to, and tight deadlines meant that a temporary solution was required before the new permanent solution could be installed.

The medical facility is committed to providing friendly and professional care and offers a range of treatments from routine check-ups to advanced surgical procedures. The site includes two operating theatres, a high dependency unit and around 35 beds, all of which require precise temperature control to maintain comfort levels for its patients, and for the critical equipment. ICS Cool Energy supplied a solution over the Christmas break to meet with the hospital’s deadline of the beginning of January.

Richard Metcalfe, sales director at ICS Cool Energy, said: “Our hire division engineers installed a temporary HWE chiller system to feed the facility’s existing air handling unit, allowing for the hospital to continue operations until we installed a permanent solution.

“Once the hospital’s temperature was under control, we replaced the existing unit with an Aptus chiller.”

The AT/SS cooling system runs on the ozone-friendly R410A refrigerant and features a ‘Super Silent’ option which reduces noise and any potential disturbance to patients and those in the surrounding area. The system sustains a temperature of 18°C and has the option to increase or decrease levels by 3°C in accordance with the facility’s requirements through the use of new interface panels throughout the site.
