Nottingham trusts deploys blood tracking solution
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust selects MSoft eSolutions\' Bloodhound system
Work has begun to introduce cutting-edge blood-tracking technology at hospitals in Nottingham.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has selected MSoft eSolutions’ Bloodhound solution, which controls access to and from all blood fridges, while a bedside management system allows each bar-coded blood unit to be matched with the patient’s bar-coded wristband in a matter of seconds.
The systems provide further enhanced security and safety by ensuring that only approved staff are allowed to access blood. The firm’s blood-tracking solution provides positive identification of users and patients and indepth auditing of all bloods across each and every stage of the transfusion process – to help get the right blood into the right patient.
Nottingham is also the first NHS trust in the country to purchase MSoft’s Vital360 bedside decision support software, which gives professionals across the trust instant access to patient vital statistics, observation charts and life-saving calculations.

Phillippa Cheshire, lead transfusion practitioner at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, added: “The solution will improve the trust’s compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 and NHS Litigation Authority Standards 2012/13. The transfusion process will become more robust, user friendly and, most importantly, safer for the patient as a result of the implementation of electronic blood tracking.”
