The Norfolk and Waveney AAA Screening Programme has been boosted with the introduction of a SonoSite M-Turbo hand-carried ultrasound system.
Les Samuels, lead sonographer in the vascular lab at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and clinical skills trainer and lead ultrasound clinician for the programme, said: “Our service covers a large area – including the whole of Norfolk and some of north Suffolk – with a team of six technicians screening around 8,000 men a year at GP surgeries and primary care clinics across the community. The nature of this work requires a highly-portable, robust ultrasound system that is capable of withstanding the inevitable knocks it will receive in this role, and we chose SonoSite’s M-Turbo for its compact, durable design and ease of use.”
He added: “As with all AAA screening programmes, our technicians are not experienced sonographers, and so a straightforward system was a key consideration. The M-Turbo provides consistently good image quality without the need to make too many adjustments, and so is ideal for less experienced users.”
