New healthcare centre in Dulwich moves forward to detailed design stage
£20m project to be delivered through NHS LIFT programme
A new health centre is to be built on land currently occupied by Dulwich Community Hospital in London.
NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group is working with Community Health Partnerships (CHP) to progress the £20m project following extensive public engagement and consultation. The project will be delivered through CHPs Public Private Partnership LIFT Programme, with investment coming from CHP via the Department of Health.
Work will now start on detailed planning and a full business case for the new centre, including exactly which services it will provide, patient numbers, and a timeline for development. The feedback from the public consultation is shaping this work.
Due to open in 2019, the health centre will provide a range of primary care, community mental health services and support for patients with long-term conditions.
Dr Roger Durston, GP lead for the project, said: “We have been talking to residents in Dulwich and the surrounding areas about how we can improve health services since 2011 and we are delighted to be moving forward with our plans.
“We will continue to listen to what patients, health care professionals and residents say as we draw up plans for the new building and the services that will be housed there.”
CHP chief executive, Dr Sue O’Connell, added: “We are delighted that this project is moving forward, with the ultimate aim of providing excellent new healthcare services for local people in Dulwich.
