New equipment will boost skin cancer service
FUNDRAISERS have netted more than £46,000 to buy equipment to help in the treatment of skin cancer at clinics runs by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Cancer charity, Brown Dog, has donated £24,500, while the East Midlands Cancer Network has provided £22,000. The cash will be used to buy equipment for Mohs micrographic surgery, a technique for removing difficult-to-treat skin cancers while preserving healthy tissue. Dr John McKenna, consultant dermatologist at the hospital trust, said: "We are very grateful to both Brown Dog and the East Midlands Cancer Network for providing this state-of-the-art equipment for our department. The equipment will allow us to perform Mohs micrographic surgery on many more patients." This is the second piece of equipment Brown Dog has donated as earlier this year the Molemax 111 machine was unveiled, helping to enhance the treatment of patients with malignant melanomas.
