Mental health patients display art in Goodmayes

ARTWORK created by service users of North East London NHS Foundation Trust was unveiled recently at a ceremony at Sunflowers Court, a new mental health facility in Goodmayes. The event was an opportunity for the mental health service users, staff and other attendees to see their artwork take pride of place in the new building, which was officially opened in January. A time capsule was also buried in the grounds containing photographs of the construction process and information about the trust. The time capsule and artworks were put together by members of Thinkarts; a scheme providing arts-related events, projects, voluntary and freelance work for people who are experiencing, or have experienced, mental health problems. The work was facilitated by Studio 3 Arts. Trust chairman, Jane Atkinson, said: "We feels a great sense of pride regarding our new inpatient facility, which enables us to provide the highest possible standards for our service users in modern, purpose-built premises. It was lovely to unveil the artwork created by our mental health service users, so everybody can enjoy it."
