Blood-tracking solutions help to improve patient safety and security

The surge of interest in electronic healthcare solutions that has followed the death, last year, of the NHS National Programme for IT continues with news of eight contract wins worth more than £2m for Merseyside-based MSoft Esolutions.

The company has just been selected to provide its innovative Bloodhound blood-tracking systems to Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for use at Hull Royal Infirmary, Castle Hill Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

Bloodhound controls access to and from all blood fridges with rigorous security and safety ensuring only approved staff are allowed to access blood. The solution provides positive identification of users and patients and indepth auditing of all bloods across each and every stage of the transfusion process to help get the right blood into the right patient.

This is the eighth successful tender bid for the firm over the past financial year, leading to the recruitment of four new members of staff at the head office in Bromborough and the southern office in Cheltenham.

Matt McAlister, managing director of MSoft eSolutions, said: “Winning Hull and East Yorkshire completes a remarkable clean sweep for MSoft and will mean more than £2m in revenue.

“We were already providing our Bloodhound solution to hospitals in Lincolnshire, so this latest success strengthens our presence on the East Coast of England.”

On the growing interest in electronic solutions among NHS providers, he added: “To win eight out of eight tenders during the last financial year is a fitting reward for all the hard work and dedication of the MSoft team. Customers tell us they like the fact that we are flexible, respond to their specific needs, move quickly and are constantly looking to innovate and improve upon the products and service we offer.”

The other trusts to have selected MSoft eSolutions are Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Cheshire NHS Trust.
