The first of four new imaging systems has been installed at Russells Hall Hospital, part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.
The Artis zee ceiling-mounted system from Siemens Healthcare was unveiled as part of a new angiography suite at the hospital. It will be used for a wide range of diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures including endovascular aortic repairs (EVAR).
The system provides fast, high-resolution images and includes advanced applications such as DynaCT - 3D soft tissue imaging. The flexibility of the device’s rotating C-arm and flat detector also enables full body coverage and easy patient access, and the flat detector can be used in both landscape and portrait imaging and can be rotated during the procedure, enabling different examinations to be carried out quickly and easily.

Over the coming months, the hospital will also be adding a floor-mounted Artis zee, SOMATOM Definition AS CT and SOMATOM Definition AS+ CT to the suite. The Definition AS+ will help to speed up examinations for traditionally-difficult patients, while the SOMATOM Definition AS is designed to suit a range of patient types and imaging requirements. Both CT systems offer a wid- bore, high-spatial resolution and advanced scanning capabilities.

The four new systems replace existing equipment as part of an 18-year Managed Equipment Service agreement (MES) with Siemens Healthcare. The partnership sets out a strategic approach to equipment provision and financial planning, guaranteeing the latest medical equipment and the ongoing maintenance of existing systems via a fixed annual charge. By ringfencing investment for the life of the contract, all equipment concerns such as replacement and maintenance are taken care of through one point of contact.
