EX2 Electrical to futureproof electrical distribution network across hospital site

EX2 Electrical has secured a £4.5m contract to deliver a major upgrade to the main electrical infrastructure at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The project involves the reinforcement of the existing High Voltage (HV), Low Voltage (LV) and standby generation infrastructure to the hospital to provide additional capacity and a more-resilient electrical distribution network.

The works include the provision of four 2,000kVA HV transformers, three 2,000kVA generators, four 3,200a switchboard and two 6,300a generator switchboards, HV & LV cabling, busbar trunking, and specialist controls systems.

EX2 as principal contractor will also oversee the construction of new switchrooms and enabling works to facilitate the upgrade.

Drawing on its previous experience and technical capability, EX2 will ensure that the work, which will be phased over two years, will be completed without impacting onsite operations.

This will be achieved by working collaboratively with the trust’s design team and EX2’s specialist supply chain to ensure there is no disruption throughout the timeline of the project.

Onsite, work has already commenced with all current coronavirus restrictions being adhered to.

Martyn Beale, managing director at EX2 Electrical, said: “As a local company we are delighted to have been chosen to deliver this project for Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation NHS Trust.

“The work will futureproof the system for many years to come and provide additional capacity to support future developments.

“Our experience working within live hospital sites over the years will guide us throughout this project and our team will ensure that the work is carried out both efficiently and safely.”
