St James’s University Hospital, run by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has installed two Ysio wi-D X-ray systems.
Following the digital installations, chest imaging workflow across the hospital’s emergency department and wards have been boosted.
In addition to wireless X-ray detectors for general imaging procedures, both systems also feature a vertical bucky for chest examinations. This combination enhances patient comfort, removing the need for patients to be transferred to the examination table.
The Ysio wi-D, from Siemens Healthcare, has a wireless mobile detector, providing greater imaging flexibility, versatility of use and greater coverage, reducing patient examination times. In addition to high-resolution images, it also provides automatic image orientation and fast image preview functionality, working in synergy to streamline processes and improve patient workflow. And the optional clinical table allows hospitals to cater for a variety of patient sizes, heights and conditions.
“Installation of the two Ysio wi-D X-ray systems has enabled us to manage high patient workflow from our emergency department and on the wards,” said Jane Bewell, principal superintendent for X-ray at the hospital. “By using a combination of the vertical bucky and the mobile wireless detector, we can X-ray most patients without removing them from a hospital trolley, minimising stress for those in a critical condition or with limited mobility. Staff have commented on the user-friendliness and flexibility the systems offer, with the diagnostic monitor providing strong image clarity to support diagnosis.”
The installation forms part of an extensive modernisation programme carried out at the hospital’s Chancellor Wing X-ray department.
