70-bed residential, nursing and dementia home opens its doors

The construction team at J Tomlinson has handed over a state-of-the-art £6.5m care home to developer, Hamberley Development.

Based in Cumnor, Oxfordshire, 70-bed Chawley Grove Care Home will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, with luxury facilities including a cinema, health and beauty salon, and private dining suite, as well as en-suite bedrooms throughout.

The 16-month design and build project, which marks the second new-build care home J Tomlinson has delivered on behalf of Hamberley, was completed on time and budget.

The completed scheme marks the latest in a range of extra care projects undertaken by the construction, maintenance and refurbishment services partner, with a third, a 43-bed West Midlands-based specialist care facility, due to be handed over to Hamberley in October.

In addition, J Tomlinson’s commercial refurbishment division is also currently undertaking the refurbishment of Galanos House – a Warwickshire dementia care facility managed by the Royal British Legion.

Darroch Baker, managing director (construction) at J Tomlinson, said: “We have worked closely with our client and the wider project team to create a luxury facility with the resident experience at the forefront of our shared vision, and we hope residents flourish within their new environment.”

Tim Street, director of Hamberley Development, added: Chawley Grove Care Home will be the leading high-quality care home in Oxford. He commented: “Having the right built environment is critical and we are proud to have gone the extra mile at Chawley Grove to produce a homely and luxurious building that will also facilitate the provision of outstanding care.”
