Care home will specialist in dementia and palliative care

ISG has been awarded a £4.7m project to construct a new care home in Dunstable for residential care specialist, Quantum Care.

The contract builds on ISG’s relationship with the client, a not-for-profit company specialising in dementia and palliative care for older people across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex.

Dunstable represents ISG’s first complete new-build project for Quantum Care, following the successful delivery of three care home extension projects in Hertfordshire last year.

Located in the centre of Dunstable on a former industrial estate site, the 38,750sq ft, three-storey care home will provide accommodation for up to 75 residents in en-suite private rooms. The new building will have extensive facilities, including a hairdressing salon and café, along with an open-plan TV room and kitchenette for every seven or eight bedrooms, where residents can socialise and enjoy organised activities.

ISG has again worked closely with Quantum Care to ensure every detail of the construction and fit-out of the new facilities enhances the living environment for residents.

End users have been consulted throughout the design process and have provided valuable input into internal colour schemes, planting layouts within the garden areas and the overall access strategy.

The home incorporates advanced care facilities, including an Eclipse specialist dementia nurse call system, which uses intelligent monitoring to switch on lights and alert staff if a resident gets out of bed and fails to return within an allotted timeframe.

The building also has a highly-sustainable design to minimise its impact on the environment and to reduce operational costs, incorporating air source heat pumps, solar thermal and solar photo voltaic arrays.

Alan McCarthy-Wyper, managing director of ISG’s construction business, said: “The continuity of our delivery team and the specialist expertise and applied learning from previous Quantum Care projects proved vitally important in securing this keynote scheme in Dunstable. This is a niche sector, where intelligent and subtle design solutions have a profound impact on the lives and wellbeing of residents, and ISG’s expertise delivering award winning specialist care facilities continue to be highly valued by many of the UK’s leading providers.”
