Hospital Catering Association honours industry

Winners of National Awards are announced

On Thursday, 14 April, the Hospital Caterers Association announced the winners of its national awards to more than 300 industry guests at its annual Leadership and Development Forum .

Five awards were presented on the night by Phil Shelley, the association's national chairman, and invited guests at the ACC Liverpool.

Introduced for the first time this year was the HCA’s brand new 6C’s award category, which was taken on the night by Paul Coulson of Serco at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. The 6C’s Awards represents care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment and was awarded to the team at Serco for its success in professional collaboration and partnership working between clinical, dietetic and catering colleagues.

“Every year the judging gets harder as the standard and volume of entries continue to rise. It was a spectacular night and we were particularly pleased to see so many of our peers coming together in collaboration with others to produce best-in-class catering services”, said Shelley.

The award winners were:

Caterer of the Year Award – Liz Hawkshaw (Trent branch), catering manager at Sheffield Teaching Hospital

Catering Service of the Year – Pamela Mailler (West of Scotland branch), Golden Jubilee Foundation Hospital

6C’s Award – Paul Coulson (London and South East branch), Serco/East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

Wilma Wilkie Outstanding Service Award - Val Landers (Wales branch)

Chairman’s Choice Award - Northern branch
