Commemorative foundation stones taken from a church in Basingstoke are being incorporated into the structure of a new doctor’s surgery in the town.
The £3.2m medical facility is being built in Paddock Road in the South Ham area of the town and will provide a dental practice, GP centre and pharmacy. It is located on the site of the former St Andrew’s Church, which was built in 1955. A new Methodist church has been developed alongside.
Construction company, Leadbitter, agreed to relay the stones on the site in an effort to retain the history of the area.
Regional director, David Cook, said: “We are pleased to mark the excellent progress of this project with these historic foundation stones. We are sure the new facilities at St Andrew’s will meet all of the requirements of both the church and the local community for a long time to come.”
