Shire Hall Care Home wins Best Interior Dementia Design at the national Dementia Care Awards

Hallmark Care Homes’ facility in Cardiff has scooped a prestigious dementia design award.

Shire Hall Care Home was named Best Interior Dementia Design at the national Dementia Care Awards.

The awards, first established in 2009, seek to acknowledge care providers and individuals who have made a significant difference to the quality of life of people living with dementia.

Shire Hall, which underwent a £700,000 refurbishment last November, boasts several facilities including an old-fashioned pub, a hair salon, barbers, café, cinema, farmhouse kitchen, and a sensory lounge.

Outside, it has beautiful landscaped gardens, with most residents on the ground floor having access to their own patio.

General manager, Karen Grapes said: “I am over the moon and so pleased for Shire Hall.

“A special thanks go to design manager, Hannah Cokeley, for her interior design ideas and to all the estates and development team which assisted in the refurbishment.”

The winners of the 2017 awards were announced at a ceremony hosted by former Emmerdale actor, John Middleton, at Doncaster Racecourse.

Entrants were judged on their design innovation with regard to practicality and cost awareness combined with the needs of people living with dementia.
