Construction work to begin on immunology institute
Work will start within weeks on a new immunology institute at the Royal Free Hospital in north London.
Willmott Dixon has secured full planning consent for the £42m Pears Building, which will specialise in researching new treatments for leukaemia, diabetes and cancer.
Toureen Contractors has been appointed to deliver groundworks on the site, paving the way for construction of the seven-storey development, which will open in 2021.
The brick-clad building will be located at Rosslyn Hill near Hampstead Heath and will provide around 100,000sq ft of laboratory space for the Institute for Immunity and Transplantation, a patient hotel, offices for the Royal Free Charity, and a new carpark.
Designed by Hopkins, the project is being managed by Buro Four, with BDP acting as design consultant.
It will enable more patients to access ground-breaking medical treatments through clinical trials.
