EPR system goes live at spinal centre
AN ELECTRONIC patient record system has gone live at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC), designed specifically to improve patient care in the highly-specialised field of work. The NSIC, based at Aylesbury's Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire, cares for patients with spinal cord injuries who often need specially-tailored treatment and rehabilitation programmes. The system allows records to be viewed and updated, care plans created, and information shared between staff in other departments or on different shifts more easily. Claire Guy, NSIC rehabilitation programme lead, said: "It is a real advance because it promotes patient-centred care and interdisciplinary working. It also saves time for staff. For example, if a part-time speech or language therapist needs to know what was agreed at a meeting about a particular patient, they can now easily access this through the system and provide the correct treatment."
