The £1.6m Forum shortlisted in Constructing Excellence Awards and West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards

The £1.6m redevelopment of a Coventry health centre is in the running for a number of prestigious industry awards.

The innovative Forum Health Centre in Wyken, designed by Coventry-based IDP, has been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) West Midlands Awards, which recognise the best standards in architecture across the region.

What is most rewarding is being shortlisted for something that mattered to us the most in the whole process – our vision

IDP, a leading multi-disciplinary design consultancy, and Forum Health Centre are also in the final of four categories in the Constructing Excellence Awards at this year’s West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards.

IDP led the project to extend and refurbish the health centre after it received the largest funding allocation by the NHS in the West Midlands in 2015, establishing it as a flagship primary care redevelopment in the region.

The newly-refurbished centre in Farren Road has since become the first practice in Coventry and Rugby, and one of only two in the central region, to be rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

IDP is a finalist for the Project of the Year Building Projects and Sustainability Award in the Constructing Excellence Awards for its lead role in the transformation of the surgery, which put patient wellbeing and care at the heart of the design.

Forum Health Centre is up for the Client of the Year.

Filip Florczak, associate director at IDP, who led on the project, is a contender for Young Achiever of the Year.

We haven’t just delivered a cost-efficient health centre building; we have delivered a vision that will make a difference to the local community and reinforce a new direction for the NHS

The health centre reflects a vision to create a ‘healing environment’ with the building’s design, function, and layout, promoting a feeling of positivity among patients and staff.

Florczak said: “We are obviously delighted for our project to be recognised across the region.

“What is most rewarding is being shortlisted for something that mattered to us the most in the whole process – our vision.

“We haven’t just delivered a cost-efficient health centre building; we have delivered a vision that will make a difference to the local community and reinforce a new direction for the NHS, which will bring together defragmented services into a more-cohesive patient journey set in a creative and innovative environment.”

The design team included IDP PM (project management); Forum Health Centre partners; Coventry-based Crowngate Construction, which was the main contractor on the project; and JMS Consulting Engineers.

The West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards, recognising the region’s best projects in the construction industry, will be held at the ICC Birmingham on Friday, 28 April.

The winners of RIBA West Midlands Awards will be announced on 15 May at a celebration evening at the Park Regis, Birmingham.
