C-T 08 nurse call system installed in new £2.48m Cardiology Day Case Unit

Courtney-Thorne has completed installation of its C-T 08 nurse call system at a new £2.48m Cardiology Day Case Unit (CDCU) at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.

The specialist centre will bring all outpatient and day case cardiology services at the hospital together in a single location, providing a dedicated cardiac catheterisation laboratory and state-of-the-art heart failure services.

Courtney-Thorne has installed a total of 16 room units for the specialist unit, which includes two six-bed recovery bays - one male and one female - along with two consultation rooms, a registrar’s office, and a catheterisation lab for procedures and treatment.

The nurse call system supplied, programmed and installed by Courtney-Thorne also includes pull cords for the toilet areas and a nursing station touchscreen for real-time call management, prioritisation, and data collection.

The CDCU nurse call is the third C-T 08 system to be provided by Courtney Thorne for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital. The work was part of its strategy to replace existing hard wired nurse call systems with more flexible and cost-effective wireless technology.

Courtney-Thorne has already completed a 55-room unit installation of the C-T 08 system for the hospital’s 36-bed B3 general surgical ward, including full corridor lamps installation, toilet pull cords and nursing station touchscreen.

The company has also provided a standby ‘break out system’, which includes 50 pre-programed room units and two nursing station display screens, which can be deployed within an hour should a nurse call system anywhere on the hospital estate develop a fault.

Steve Hargraves, estates officer at North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The break-out system from Courtney-Thorne has proved extremely useful for keeping nurse call services up and running in the event of a fault and it’s the general flexibility of the wireless system that makes it so appealing for a busy hospital like this where services are constantly evolving.

“All new assets are selected on a best value basis so the nurse call for the new CDCU was selected on the same criteria, and Courtney-Thorne was able to demonstrate that the system not only offers value for money but also delivers the ease of use, functionality and flexibility we need to help future-proof our investment in industry-leading wireless nurse call technology.”
