Conference to explore impact of Health Bill on NHS landscape
COMPANIES and healthcare leaders confused about how the NHS will operate following the publication of the controversial Health and Social Care Bill will be able to quiz industry experts an event later this month.
The Binley’s Getting to Know the NHS conference in Birmingham on 29 March will explore the impact the reforms will have on businesses and the NHS itself.
Speakers will include NHS commentator, Roy Lilley; Helen Dickinson of the Health Services Management Centre at Birmingham University; Angeline Jones of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust; and Dr Andrew Coward of the South Birmingham Integrated Clinical Commissioning Consortium.
Since the publication of the White Paper in July last year, the healthcare community has been waiting with bated breath to find out how the landscape will alter under the coalition government
Among the issues that will be covered are what the new GP commissioning consortia will look like and how they will most likely operate; the role of the new National Commissioning Board; and the procurement process moving forward. There will also be panel discussions exploring how companies can make the most of the new competitive marketplace and how the changes will affect traditional purchasing practices.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “Since the publication of the White Paper in July last year, the healthcare community has been waiting with bated breath to find out how the landscape will alter under the coalition government.
“Now, with the Health and Social Care Bill going through Parliament, the future structure of the NHS is starting to become clearer. More GPs are establishing pathfinder consortia, the shadow NHS Commissioning Board is being set up, and people are on the move.
“This informative and topical one-day event will explore what will stay and what will go, where responsibilities will fall, who will hold the budgets and, more importantly, how these changes to NHS structure and policy will affect businesses.”
The event is the first of a three-part conference stream. Later this summer there will also be programmes on understanding the NHS procurement processes and developing a business case for NHS purchasers.
